Back to Work I Go!

I work as a School Bus Driver. And since there’s a pandemic going on, our school closed in March, and went to Online Learning. They also started out this year online.

I LOVE my job. I love the driving portion, I love all of the little things that go along with that. But mostly, I love interacting with kids in this manner. There are so many amazing kids in our tiny district, and I hope they stay that way. Which means, of course, I miss the heck out of our actual school year stuff, and I want to go back as soon as safely possible.

We know they’re going to a Hybrid Schedule soon – Half the students in class Mondays and Wednesdays, the other half Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Friday online for everyone – but we don’t have a clue the exact timing. Maybe a month, maybe a couple weeks. I’ll find out tomorrow after the Monday school board meeting.

However, Special Needs Students are going in to school every day currently, as well as Students covered by the McKinney-Vento Act (temporarily unhoused). Which means that there are kids needing to be transported. So I started a little working two weeks ago. Then my boss went on vacation (Kinda), and needed someone in the office in the mornings and since I build him all his spreadsheets for organization, we got pretty much everything needed for this school year done and up to date. I love it because, eventually, I want his job, and creating all of the spreadsheets means that I’m also learning what the job needs to be efficient. 😀

This also means a little less time on the computer, for now, which means that I’m setting things up to auto-post a lot more. I’ll probably be downloading the WordPress app on my phone so I can do these little interludes more regularly, but unless my route stays the same as last years, I won’t be able to bring my comp with me and play quite as much.

I hope school starts within the next month. I miss my kids, and with our community not hit at all by COVID, I think it’s time. I mean, there’s always a chance, but with the schools plans to be super careful, and shut down and sanitize whenever there’s a possible case.

Already we’re sanitizing the heck out of the transport vehicles – I sanitize everything after every route, because I hate the idea that I might be the cause of someone getting infected…. This is going to be a tough year.

I hope the vaccine is available soon!
